Reflection Questions on Night

152. Why do you think Elie Wiesel wrote this book?
I think Elie Wiesel wrote this book because he wanted to people to know his story. This is a sentimental subject to cover, and it couldn’t have been easy for him but he did it because he knew that people needed to know the truth about what went on during this time.

153. Why do you think he chose Night as its title?
I think he chose Night as its title because Night is dark and cold, and that is probably how he feels every moment while he is in a concentration camp. He wanted readers to realize that this story wasn’t going to be pretty. It was going to be honest, and just descriptive.

154. How does Elie change as a result of his experiences in the concentration camps?
Elie was only 15 when he was freed from the camps, I cannot say that I know how he has changed but I can make an assumption. I can only imagine that Elie has become a stronger person, physically and mentally. This was a hard time for him, and no one deserves to go through it. The camps made him fight for his life, Elie had to learn how to fight alone.

155. How does Elie finally come to terms with his ordeal?
(what does he finally do?)
In order to come to terms with his ordeal Elie Wiesel writes Night. He wants to make sure that what happened to him doesn’t happen to anyone. He writes his story to make sure people know what he is going through, to make sure no one has to go through it again.

156. Give examples of issues in Night that are still arise today?
What do you think should be done about genocide?
In Tanzania there is discrimination against anyone who is Albino. They take all the Albinos they can get and lock them up in camps, or even kill them. They even use them as trade, once dead they can take body parts or hair. I think that all genocide should end, because well people were put on this earth for a reason, and torturing them is not one.

Anne Frank

Allyson Torres
Questions to The Diary of Anne Frank
Scene I and Scene II

Page 832

The families must obey strict rules to avoid discovery. Which rules would be hardest for your to follow? Why?

The rule that would be hardest for me to follow would have to be staying quiet all day long. I mean how can a human possibly sit still without saying a word for more than 5 hours. You couldn’t use the bathroom, I can hold my pee but not for that long. Life for these people must have been really rough, but I’m sure they would do anything to remain undiscovered.

In Scene 1, what objects does Mr. Frank find in the secret rooms? B) What do Anne’s presents show about her? C) Why do the others react with enthusiasm to their presents?

In Scene 1 Mr. Frank finds a white glove, a multi colored scarf, and Miep also points out to him that Anne left her diary. B) When Anne gives the presents to the ‘family’ for Hanukkah it shows that she cares about each of them enough to make them feel like their receiving something new. Even though the gifts were home made, and reused Anne made an effort to make them feel at home. C) The others react with enthusiasm to their presents because they were surprised that they were even getting anything. The presents weren’t ‘the best money could buy’ but it was the thought that counted, Anne had made an effort and I think they appreciated that.

Evaluate the statement. “There are…no locks that anyone can put on your mind”. How does Anne prove that this is true?

Anne continues to think that hiding out will result in the ‘family’ getting saved and reunited with everyone else. She still thinks that nothing is wrong with the people that are doing this to them. Mr. Frank means that no one can stop you from thinking what your thinking, no one can lock up your mind and tell you what not to think. Anne proves that because she still thinks people are good while others don’t understand where she can get that from.

What is the historical cause that forces the Franks to go into hiding? B) What effects does this situation have on their daily lives?

The historical event that forces the Franks to go into hiding was The Holocaust. B) This situation effects their daily lives because they are no longer allowed to go out, or use the bathroom as often as they wanted. They were like prisoners in their own hiding spot.

In Scene 2 Anne and Peter discuss the Stars of David’s on their clothes. A) What effects of the Nazis intend the wearing of the stars to have on the Jews? B) What background information about the war and the Nazis’ treatment of the Jews helps to link this cause with its intended effects?

The effects that the Nazis intended on the wearing of the stars were so that they could identify who was Jewish and who was not. They also wanted to make the Jews feel like they were not important, like they didn’t matte to anyone. B) With research I learned that the Nazis did not like the Jews. They discriminated against them, especially with the stars.

Complete an organizer like the one shown with examples of dialogue that achieve each purpose.
Dialogue: Reveals character and relationships
1. Anne: “I have a much better idea. I’ll come in here with you and Mother, and Margot can take Peter’s room and Peter can go in our room with Mr. Dussel.”
Margot: “That’s right. We could do that.”

Mr. Frank: “No, Margot. You mustn’t sleep in that room… neither you nor Anne. Mouschi has caught some rats in there. Peter’s brave. He doesn’t mind.”

*This shows who Anne is, she would switch her room just to make someone else fit.

Advances the action of the plot
1. Mr. Frank: “No. I think they’ve gone.” @ noise below hiding

Mrs. Van Daan: “It’s the Green Police. They’ve found us.”

Mr. Frank: “If they had, they wouldn’t have left. They’d be up here by now.”

* This makes it seem like the hiding is becoming more dangerous, because someone has realized they are up there.

Develops the conflict
1. Dussel: “I think some day he’ll get caught and then he’ll make a bargain with the Green Police…if they’ll let him off, he’ll tell them where some Jews are hiding.” @ the ‘thief’ below
Mrs. Van Daan: “You’re crazy!”
Mr. Van Dann: “He’s right.”
Anne: “Father, let’s get out of here! We can’t stay here now...Let’s go.”
Mr. Van Daan: “Go! Where!?”

* They have no other place to hide, and they have to deal with the fact that someone might know where their hiding.

After Mr. Kraler asks if Jan Dussel can join the Franks and the Van Daans in hiding, what does the dialogue among the characters reveal about their personalities.
The conversation between the characters when Mr. Dussel joined them in hiding showed that some characters were more selfish than others. Mr. Van Daan complained that there was not enough food for them, so they shouldn’t take in another person. Other people were okay with it because they knew that he was in need like them, but for a place to hide out.

Page. 870

What do you like best about Anne Frank? How would you like having her as a friend?
The thing I liked best about Anne Frank was that she spoke her mind, she was a regular teenager. She had issues with her mother, and she liked talking to Peter. I liked the fact that she didn’t care about what other people thought about the Nazis, she still thought that everybody had good in them. I think I would like having her as a friend, because she seems like any other friend that I have.

What disturbing news does Mr. Kraler bring on New Year’s Day? B) What hint dos this give about the ending of the play?
Mr. Kraler say’s that someone has suspicions about whether or not the Franks have really left to Switzerland. He said that one of the workers noticed a bookcase that hid in front of a door. The worker was trying to black mail Mr. Kraler, kind of like trying to get him to give more money or he will make up something about the Franks. B) This hints to me that someone might snitch on the ‘family’ that’s hiding in the Secret Annex.

What is the time span of Act II? B) How have the characters changed since the end of Act I? C) How do you know that Anne has changed?

The time span of Act II is around 1944-1945. B) The characters have changed since the end of Act I because they seem to be more okay with how many people are now hiding out with them. The Van Daans seem to fight more than ever. They seem to appreciate more things now than ever before. I know that Anne has changed because she seems to talk to Peter more about things that matters to her and about her hopes and dreams.
How can Anne believe that "...in spite of everything ..people are really good at heart?" B) What does Mr. Frank mean when he says: "She puts me to shame"?
I think that Anne still believes that in spite of everything people are really good at heart, because she wants to believe that she will soon be free. Anne wants to believe that she will be able to do normal things again. B) Mr. Frank means that he thinks people are mean and since hes the adult he should be more responsible than Anne.
For each of the following events, identify on cause and one effect: Mr. Vann's decision to steal food B) Mrs. Frank's change of heart about wanting the Van Daans to leave.
Cause: Mr. Vaan Daan stole food
- Because selfish and wants more for himself
Effect: Everything lost respect for him.
Cause: Mrs. Franks change of heart
-She knows they have to get along
Effect: they got closer, and helped each other out. Peter and Anne become closer
What are some possible causes of Mrs. Van Daan's attitude toward Anne and Peter's relationship?
Mrs Van Daan does not want Anne to talk to Peter, I think this because she might think that Anne is going to take her son away from here meaning he will no longer want to talk to his own family.
Living in close quarters has multiple effects on the residents of the "Secret Annex." List three effects that result from this single cause.
1. They had stict rules to follow
2. They only communicate with those in the house.
3. Not enough food, clothing, or money to survive.
Literay Analysis
On a chart like the one shown, identify the possible motivation behind the actions listed.
Miep: Brings flowers and cake to the attic rooms.
Motivation: The 'family' starts to think they will be free soon
Mr. Van Daan: Steals the food at night
Motivation: He can change, everybody must get along in the house
Peter Van Daan: Starts to like talking to Anne
Motivation: When they get out of hiding they will still be friend, they have someone to talk to.
What possible motivations might an informer have for telling the authorities about the families in hiding?
An informer might need something to get away with. If he/she knows something and is in trouble with the law then they can use the information they know to be set off the hook.

Hansel and Gretel

Hansel and Gretel
From the step mothers point of view
-----------------------------------
These kids have been bugging me since I’ve been around. I’ve wanted to get rid of them since forever. I had a plan and if I could get my husband to agree with me, then it could work.

I’ve been saving my food, my family has been thinking I’ve been eating it but the truth of the matter is I have been starving myself.
If I can save enough food, and get rid of Hansel and Gretel, my husband and I will be able to live on our own.

My husband doesn’t want to abandon the children, but I convinced him to do it.

We took them to the forest, gave them a lie and said we would be back, but we weren’t coming back for them.

****
Hansel and Gretel managed to come back to the house, my plan was ruined!
My husband and I decided to take them back to the forest, but this time even farther, a place where I once had been.

I managed to make sure they would never come back, I found a local witch and told her to hunt them down.

She would lure them in, cook them and then give the bodies to me.
My husband would never know, and he would never care.

Its been more than a day and they have not returned, I still haven’t ate and I’m starting to feel weak.

I found out the witch has them, she is in the process of getting them ready for the big feast.

I went back to the forest today, but the house was half eaten and empty. It looked like a fire had broke out, because debris was all over the furniture.

I had a feeling the kids had escaped and were on their way back to the house, this could not happen. I ran with all my might through the forest, I tripped over a rock, and everything went blank.

Adam's Diary

Adam’s Diary
By: Ally T.
MY VERY LONG JOURNAL ENTRY-SUNDAY:
When I first saw her I was dumbfounded, I really wanted
her to come and chase me. Not actually chase me as in a race but I wanted to you know, play hard to get. I would ignore her, that’s the plan make her really want me. The first time she noticed me was really hard. Boy did this girl love to talk, she would even talk to herself. Me being there was more than she needed, I was an extra because even without me she still managed to talk her mouth off.

I wanted her to realize she loved me for who I was and not what I knew. I knew that Eve was smart, and I knew that she would realize my evil ways.
Eve was amazing, beautiful, smart, and curious. She was everything a man like me needed, she completed who I was. I mean lets face it I wasn’t the brightest man created, and I believe that happened for a reason. Eve was created to complete ME!

I had to find a way to get her back, figure out a way I could get her attention. I acted like I didn’t know some stuff, just so she could teach me. I wanted to spend every living minute with her. I knew that if I was harsh to her now she would come around later. I noticed she was into everything, asking questions about everything. She even gave everything she saw a name, she did all the work. Eve needed a way to stay busy and she did it, without me.

When I told her she was naked I think she took it offensively, don’t get me wrong she had a nice body and was still beautiful. I wanted her to think I wasn’t interested, not even a little. When Eve first discovered fire, I realized I had to let my guard down. She wasn’t as smart as I thought she was, there was still some things she had to learn.

We would make a good team, we would work together and this would be the best experiment ever created. She was alone for most of the day, she would even talk to her very own reflection. Eve was weird, but she was my weird. When I first told her I loved her all she could say was that she loved me too.

She was right about the whole experiment thing, we were put here for a purpose.
We needed to show everyone that no matter how different men and women were, they could still work together.

My Eve is gone, but she remains with me in spirit.

Fable -The Caterpillar Roger.

Once there was a caterpillar named Roger. Roger wanted to become a butterfly, really bad. The only problem with Roger was that he was not old enough to be turned into a butterfly. Roger tried really hard, and his wish came true. His cocoon broke way to early, and he became a bright green butterfly. He flapped his wings, unsuccessfully he fell to the floor. He got up and tried again, this time landing in a puddle of water. Roger no longer had the strength to carry himself out of the water. He drowned and died instantly. He was not ready to become a butterfly, so he couldn’t survive on his own.

The Outcasts of Poker

If you had to blame someone or something for the outcasts' deaths, who/what would you blame, and why?

----------------------------------

-Uncle Billy
-Citizens or Poker Flat
-Bad luck
-Outcasts

If i had to blame someone for the deaths of the outcasts' I would blame the citizens of Poker Flat. I mean they judged the outcasts by what they were, they didn't really take the time to get to know who they actually were. When the outcasts were left for dead during the snow storm their true colors came out, and we really got to see how sweet and sincere they were. If the citizens of Poker Flat never kicked them out, they would have never been in that situation. They judged them by what they were and not who they were. I think the outcasts shouldn't of been outcasts. They should have been citizens of Poker Flat. Even though Uncle Billy escaped with the horses, I dont believe it was his fault, because they all could have tried to make it back to Poker Flat in time. So I blame all the deaths on the citizens of Poker Flat!

Kate Chopin

"The story of an Hour"
I liked this story because it was like this women wanted to be free from her husband. Once she found out he died she was happy, but once she came back she was devastated and dead. I think this story does a good job at classifying freedom because at the end she was finally free. I didnt think the story would end like this, I actually thought she was going to get a chance at life. Instead Mrs. Mallard was forced to be with him, I guess she would rather die than be with him.
------------------
"The Blind Man"
This was my least favorite story because it made me feel sorry for the blind man. Everyone in the story treated him wrong, no one helped him, and no one talked to him. When the rich man got killed the people made it more important to attend to him and not the man that was blind. This story makes rich people out to be better than poor and disabled people. I didnt like reading this because it made me want to jump in the story and take the blind man home with me.
-------------------------
"Desiree's Baby"
This was my favorite story out of all the Kate Chopin stories we read. I really liked this story because I liked the fact that Armand got a taste of his own medicine. He always thought that since his baby looked black that Desiree was the one that was half black. In all actually Armand was the one that had the black blood in him. When the ending came I didnt suspect it, I thought he was going to find something out like Desiree cheated on him. When he found that letter it was a big shocker. This story explains how racist it was back then towards black people, i just dont understand why they were treated wrong.

Dr. Heidegger's Experiment

When they took the cure for aging I was amazed that it actually worked. I had tried it out on the flower the 50 year old rose. It turned bright red, and had proven to me that the water would work. I tried it out on Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Gascoigne and Widow Wyclerly. They drank more water than I had expected, I wanted to see what would happen. I noticed the rose had soon died and went back to its dull color, I wondered if the same thing would happen to the people.

They started to act normal, but they didn’t change anything. They were just young people doing to same mistakes over and over. I noticed that the mirror was the only thing telling the truth, and I knew that this special water would not last long on these testers. They started complaining, and they wanted more, I didn’t recommend they take more than usual because they might turn back old. I didn’t tell them that this would not last, they would have to find out on their own. Once I knew for sure that it would not last I wanted to see if they would change their minds on the choices they made, I had no such luck. They were continuing to remain the same only younger. Then it happened, one noticed that she was returning to her old self. Then it happened to the rest, and then they were back to normal. I knew my theory was correct, this would not even last the night. They wanted to know where the fountain of youth was, and i told them because well it would not work.

Desiree's Baby, The Sequel

Desiree’s Baby, The Sequel
By: Ally

Armand threw the letter in the fire, wanting to erase any evidence of this nonsense. He started walking towards the house, feeling ashamed that not Desiree but he was black. There was no way he could tell anybody, he would lose everything, all his power, he could not come clean.
--------------------------
He felt a drop fall down his cheek, it could not be a tear, he would not cry about this. It was rain, it started pouring because when it rain its pours. The fire went out and Armand did not go back to check on the remains.
----------------------------------------
Armand requested that Roger, one of the youngest slave clean up the mess and ash. Roger walked towards the fire and noticed a yellow sheet of paper that was still in tact. He picked up the paper not knowing what it said and stuffed it in his pocket. When Roger returned to his slave quarters, he took the paper out and stuck it under his pillow.
------------------------------
The next day Madame Valmonde came to the house to talk to Armand about what he had done to Desiree. Roger was finishing cleaning up the mess of all the clothes Armand had thrown out. Armand refused to talk to Madam Valmonde, Roger led her out to her carriage. When Madame Valmonde was going into the back, Roger held out a piece of paper and asked her to read it.
-------------------------------------
Madame read it to her self first and burst out with laughter. “I knew it!”. Madame took the paper and gave Roger a quarter. She went back to her house and told Desiree the good news. Desiree could not believe that Armand had blamed her for being black when all along he was the one. Madame Valmonde wanted to make this letter public, but Desiree wanted to destroy it and forget it ever happened.
------------------------------
Madame Valmode took the letter and went to the local newspaper. She told the writer she wanted to keep her name anonymous. The next day the story was out, and Armand was destroyed, his power, and his money was gone. Armands father went back to France to seek the one he fell in love with, she never really died.
------------------------------
Armand was black and that was the truth, Desiree's baby, Luke was said to inherit everything his father had own. His grandfather left everything to him because he wanted Luke to appreciate that he was half black, which Armand did not appreciate. No one told anyone that Luke was Armand's son, the public had no right to know. Desiree decided to stick to the story that Desiree adopted the baby, it would be safer for him.

Flowers for Algernon

If you were given a choice to have an operation that would make you much smarter, would you do it, especially if you knew the effects of the surgery would be temporary? Why or why not? Use examples from the story.
If I had the choice to have an operation that would make me smarter I would have to refuse. I don't think that people should change who they are. God made you a certain way for a certain reason, why would you just go and change that? When Charlie agreed to have to operation he really did not know what he was going to get himself into. Since Charlie was less intelligent than others he wanted a chance to become smarter than others. I don't think that I would want to have an operation knowing it would not last. Its like a bribe, your telling someone to do something knowing that its not going to stay with them.
If I were to have the operation and if I were to like the way it made me think or feel, I would be devastated when its gone. When Charlie started realizing that he wasnt the same genius anymore he couldnt even remember the things he did when he was a genius. Having this operation will only mess you up. You should be happy with what you have, and not want to change it.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Chapters 8- the end

Explain what this story says about each of these issues. Use examples from the story to support your explanations.
-------------------------------------
Issues:
1.Family 2.Age 3.Beauty
------------------------
-Family-
In Benjamin Button several issues are expressed, one of them is Family. In this story Benjamin was born an old man, a really old man. His father neglected him from the start, this is showing that family is only there for you when your good enough. Since Benjamin wasn't born normal Roger made it seem like he was not good enough to be in the Button family. I think that Roger felt like he was too good for Benjamin therefore he could not take him in as his son.
-Age-
This story makes age out to be so important. Its like if your old your old and boring. If your young, then your young and have to do everything that young people do. When Benjamin got into the army again they said that he was to young to join. They didnt believe that Benjamin was the colonel that once served in the army, so they wouldnt let him fight. This shows that people back then in the story judged people on how old they were. Meaning if you were old you cant do nothing that young people can do.
-Beauty-
Roger and Roscoe made Benjamin feel ugly and weird because of the way that he was born. When he was a baby that was an old man Roger Button didnt love his son until he started acting like a kid. When Benjamin was a young old man Rosoce his very own son told him to act like an old man. No matter how Benjamin acted he was never accepted from anyone. No one should have to go through was Benjamin had to put up with.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Chapters 3-7

After Reading Chapters 3-7 predict three problems you think Benjamin will encounter and give your solutions for each.
--------------------------------------
The Problems:
1. He is sick of his boring wife

2. He keeps getting younger and younger

3. He has a business to take care of
-------------------------------------
Possible Solutions:
1. Benjamin was born special he should tell his wife that as he gets older he is only going to get younger. Benjamin should tell her the true story and then if his wife doesn't believe her just leave her for someone more interesting. Although it is not his wife's fault that she has become old and boring, Benjamin just wants to get out and experience the life he never got to have.
*******
2. There is nothing Benjamin can do about his anti-aging. The only thing that he can do is go with the flow, and try to explain to people why this is happening to him. The younger he gets the more questions people are going to ask, it was just meant to happen to him.
********
3. Since his father retired the Button industry is being left for Benjamin to run, its a big job to handle and since Benjamin is only getting younger what is he going to do when he cannot remember how to handle the wood business of his father. I think that Benjamin should tell his son and his wife that eventually he will die and that when he is gone his son should take over the family business.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Chapter 2

Roger is so overly concerned wit how Benjamin looks and is worried about what people are going to say. What should he do?
-------------------------------------------------
I think that its going to take Roger some time to get use to his new born old man son. Once he realizes that Benjamin is his son, and needs special care Roger will become more responsible. If I was Roger I would just act like Benjamin was my brother or father, act like we had the same relationship so nothing would get to me. Its not Benjamins fault that he came out like this, so why should I care? Although Im an important man in my town this is my family and this is my child I should accept who is in my life. I should not care about what other people think, not now, not never.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,Chapter 1

What would you have done if you were in Roger Button in Chapter 1?
---------------------------------------
If i were Roger Button in Chapter 1 I would have been in a complete state of shock, as Roger was in the story. I wouldnt have been ashamed of my son because well, I made him. Sometimes you just have to learn to deal with things in life and this case, this case is serious. It's not my sons fault that he was born older than me but my family & I are just going to have to learn to adjust to it. Benjamin is still one of us, just older, much older. I know that Roger cares about what other people think about him since he is an important man in his town but no matter what its still his son. You just cant have a baby and not love it, because it is apart of you. It is you because without you it would not have been created.

Tagger Oh Tagger

He’s out there bombing the streets
Even when he sleeps its all that he thinks
Spreading his name, showing no shame
Its become an addiction
Always with a can in his hand
His name is sure to be on your land
Never once showing fear
Of the dangers that lurk near
His heart races as he pops that fill
Oh no! here comes Officer Bil
Living his life behind bars
He’s sure to be catching no more stars
He’s cold and alone with no way back home
With the same mentality
He cant seem to face reality
Of a dream he once called his own

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Everyday is the same at the Phillips household, nothing ever changes. You wake up, get dressed, feed the chickens, eat and go to school. Im only 6 years old, and my mother Tina always tells me that as a girl I have to learn how to take care of everything, so that when she dies nothing will go wrong. When I woke up this morning my mother told me that I was not going to school, she said we had some important business to take care of. My mother didn’t seem herself, it looked as if she had been up all night crying, she refused to tell me anything.

My clothes were already hanging on my door when I woke up, they were special clothes the type of clothes we only wear on Sundays. I got cleaned and walked downstairs, my brothers Billy and Bob were in suits, I couldn’t believe it. They didn’t look very happy, I was very curious to see what my mother had planned for us today. When I walked to the kitchen I noticed that my grandmother was not in her usual spot, knitting, she was missing. I went towards my mother who was fixing her hair, she looked pretty too. I was walking outside when I noticed that our horse Hairy was tied to a carriage, we have had Hairy for over 4 years and we never used him for transportation, we looked at him as family.

It didn’t bother me that my father was missing, he was always out fishing trying to get our dinner for the day, but I noticed that he left his fishing poles in the shack. “Brenda!” yelled my mother. I walked back inside and she had my coat in hand, said we needed to bundle up because we were going to be doing a lot of walking. My mother said she would have let us go to school but the risks were to high, she didn’t tell me what she ment by risks. I was starting to think that my mother was hiding something from my brothers and I.

We got into the carriage, there was a mysterious man sitting up front managing the ropes. My mother leaned up to the mans ear and whispered something. The man and my mother both looked at my younger brother Billy and shared a laugh. Billy was the weird kid of the family, he had blondish hair, and the tiniest nose in the world. My mother said he looked just like my grandfather when he was a baby. When the carriage stopped we were in front of our towns court house, my mother told us to stay in the carriage while her and the man went to the court house. She rushed into the house and soon disappeared into the crowd.

They were back in about 30 minutes, and they seemed happy, and my mother had an envelope in her hand. She was shaking it and laughing, she was still to far away for me to hear what she was telling the man. When they got into the carriage, they looked at my brother again and smiled. Me and my other brother, Bob looked at eachother confused, not knowing what was going on.

We were back home and there were boxes outside. We all walked into the house, the man came along with us and he sat down at the dinner table. We all sat down, Mom had made us an apple pie. She said she and the man had something important to tell us, she took the mans hand and said that Our father had left because he had found something out, she told us that this man that was sitting here with us was Bobs biological father. We were shocked and I started crying, he left the dinner table and said he was going to get his boxes because he was moving in. We were left alone sitting by the dinner table, with our new father.

The Secret

Ally T.
3/23/09
The Secret

It was my best friend’s deepest, darkest secret and it would be a hard one to keep.
He came to me crying, I’ve known Rocky for 7 years, and I have never seen him cry, ever.
His mother was friends with my mother, and when we first met we had so much in common, we’ve been best friends ever since. I always got to him first than anybody, no matter what the issue is.
He told me he had something big to tell me, something that would change the way I looked at him.
“You’re my best friend Ally, I have to tell you, your the only person I could ever tell”
I was scared, I didn’t know what he was about to tell me.

He told me to sit down because what I was about to hear might ruin our friendship.
“Rocky, nothing can make me not want to be your friend”.
He grabbed my hand and broke down to tears, made me pinky promise that I would never tell anyone. “You’re the only one who could know Ally”.
At this point Rocky was starting to scare me, I had no idea what he was about to tell me.

He asked me if I had remembered that girl he was seeing, Shannon. I told him he never really explained her to me, so he began.

*From Rocky’s point of view*

She is 17, and goes to the same school as us, I never noticed her before. Shannon had just broken up with her boyfriend when I started seeing her, She told me that she was done with him. I took her out on a date, after the first time we hung out I felt really close to her, like I was suppose to be with her. When I took her home that night, I walked her to her front steps, and noticed that their was a car parked across the street with all the lights off, I figured it belonged to her parents. I kissed her goodnight and she said she would call me later.

When I was driving home I felt like someone was watching me, possibly even following me. I pulled into my garage and walked to the basement. My phone was already ringing, and it was Shannon. I answered and said, “that was fast”. No one answered on the other line, all I heard was panting. I hung up, and my phone rang again, this time it was private. I answered and a guy said he knew what I was doing.

I figured it was a kid playing a prank on me, so I really didn’t care about it.
“My phone was ringing all night Ally”
I never answered the calls because they were all private, when I woke up in the morning I had 47 new voice messages. When I went to my car there was a note stuck behind the wipers, it said “Trust me pal, leave her alone”. I threw the note away and went to pick up Shannon from her house, she said that someone strange was calling her all night. I told her about my experience, and we decided that it was a friend of ours playing a joke. When we got to school I walked her to her locker, when she opened it a dozen roses were wrapped on one of her shelves.
She thought it they were from me, but I never told her that I never put them there.

We started getting real close, she was with me everyday, we never made it official but we were getting there. About a month passed and she began telling me about her ex-boyfriend. His name was Billy Bob and he was her first real love. He was sweet in the beginning and turned out to be abusive towards the end. She decided to end it because she was tired of covering up the bruises he left her. She said he forced her to have sex with him the night they broke up, she told her parents but they could do nothing about it.

“It was hard for him to leave me alone” Shannon
Once I found out that Billy didn’t go to our school I figured there was no way he could find out about me and her. She was safe, and we were happy. One night I decided to crash at her place, we watched a movie and went to sleep. In the middle of the night she would scream, she kept screaming “NO!”. When she woke up in the morning I told asked her if she had a nightmare, and she told me she couldn’t remember.

*********
She kept calling me, she was blowing up my phone. Shannon always wanted to be around me or
know what I was doing. I decided that she was to jealous of anyone I hung out with, and I told her we needed some time. She threw a fit, and then stopped calling. She never answered any of my calls, none of my texts, and never talked to me at school. A part of me was happy but the other part really missed her.

She texted me one night and asked for me to come over, I was surprised she wanted to see me and in a heartbeat I was ringing her doorbell. It was open, so I went straight upstairs. I brought her favorite movie, Enough with Jennifer Lopez. She had always said she loved that movie because it represented her relantionship with her and Billy, abusive.

I called her name, and she didn’t answer back. I walked all around the house and no one was home, not even her parents. I walked upstairs, and then my phone rang, it was another text message “Come upstairs”. I walked upstairs and all the lights were off, except in one room. I thought she was trying to get romantic I mean we havent been together for more than 3 weeks. I walked to the lit room, and saw her laying on the bed. I walked to her and kissed her forehead, she didn’t even move. I was talking to her, and talking to her but she never said a thing. I touched her and she wasn’t breathing. She had on a tank top and some boy shorts, I looked at her head and she had blood coming out of her hair.

I was freaking out, and didn’t know what to do. Should I call someone, leave her here, or what?

*Back to Rocky & Ally*

“Rocky what did you do?” “Did you tell call someone?”
“I didn’t know what to do, Ally”
“ROCKY!”
“Ally, I feel bad enough what was I suppose to do, everything was leading to me, they would think I killed her, I cant go to jail”.

As much as I still wanted to be Rocky's friend, I just couldn't.
I made him leave, and told him to never call me again, unless he was planning on confessing.
He left and never called, ever.

Her Mysterious Death.

Her Mysterious Death
Her death was due to mysterious circumstances, and I was assigned to the case. I’m detective Allen Sircleface, I’ve been with the law for over 12 years and I have solved almost every case I’ve been assigned. When this case came upon me I had a very strong feeling about it. I knew I was going to solve it. I live in a small town, Harrisburg Pennsylvania. We don’t get much action up here, so when I’m presented to a new case I take it seriously. I’m not your average investigator, I have problems of my own. I was into drugs before but I went to rehab for almost 5 years. I’ve been sober ever since.

**************
When I walked into the hotel room, it was horrid. I felt like I had been there before, in that room and on that bed. The white sheets were covered with blood, moist fresh blood. Cops had the whole hotel floor covered, no one without a badge was allowed to enter. Her name was Ribbon E. Flow, she was married with no kids. Her Id said she was 28 years old, just 3 days shy of being 29. She resembled someone I knew and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I felt extremely connected to this women and I didn’t know why.

Private Investigator Blue Scale told me that there was no sign of struggle, no alcohol, no drugs. She was fully dressed although her clothes were covered with blood. I soon found out that her stomach had been slashed open. She was still bleeding when we found her body, that didn’t make sense to me. Investigator Scale had a bag of her belongings in it was her cell phone, wallet, car keys, and a condom.

We checked her phone records, only to see it was a prepaid phone, and only one call had been made. It was to a Mr. Sergo Push. When I went into her wallet, everything was where it should be. Id was there, Cash was their, Credit cards were their. So who ever committed this crime did not want any money. When I went to look in her car, I noticed that it was missing. How could that be if the car keys were in the bag with her belongings.

I decided to find this women’s house and further my investigation. When I arrived to her apartment I noticed there were no men’s clothes. I only thought, where was her husband? This apartment had one bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom, nothing special. I didn’t know what I was looking for, maybe just something out of the ordinary. I walked into the kitchen, there was a yellow sticky note posted on the fridge door. It was written in clear cursive handwriting, it said “Meet me @ the Yellow Rock Hotel”. No name was signed at the bottom.
This was the same Hotel her dead body was found at, I knew something was fishy. Although we didn’t find any fingerprints in the room, I knew someone was in that room with her and I was going to find out who.

I was looking for a marriage certificate, birth certificate, something to give me a lead. I found nothing. I’m beginning to think this women wasn’t even married. I searched her in the computer, but she was never arrested nor ticketed. This women seemed as clean as a maid. So far my investigation wasn’t going anywhere, I had no names of family members, no husband, no car records, and no bills, the only thing that I had was the name of a guy. Mr. Sergo Push, was arrested once before, for breaking and entering served 3 years in the slammer. What did this women want to do with a criminal? I found the most recent address and went to pay Mr. Push a visit.

I pulled up and it was a rehab center, a center for alcoholics, a place where you can come and go as you please. Walking into another rehab center gave me chills, it only reminded me of the last time I was in one of these places. I walked up to the front desk and asked for my suspect, she said he was in the Smoking Room, how great their preventing you from drinking but not from smoking. When I walked up to Mr. Push he looked shocked to see me here. He was with another man, someone much younger. I walked in to the end of their conversation, hearing nothing. I asked him if he had a moment to talk, he said lets walk to my room. I followed as he lead.

His room was super clean, and filled with super white sheets. He was not allowed to smoke in his room, which was why they had a smoking room. In his hand I noticed he had a box of matches. He laid it down and went to get a drink. I noticed a big yellow rock on the box, I flipped it over and on the back said “Thanks for checking in Yellow Stone Hotel”. I had a feeling this was my guy. When he came back into the room, he had a bottle of water said he was trying to stay sober. I asked him where he was on the night of March 30, he said here, my rehab center. He didn’t even ask me why I was asking, but I had to tell him. I asked if he knew a Ms. Ribbon E. Flow, he said no. I knew he was lying because Ms. Flow was calling him, and he had the same box of matches from the hotel. I pointed to the box of matches, and he said “Needed a moment to get away from this place”.

I left him with my card, told him if the heard anything to give me a call. I went back to my station, thinking about if I was ever going to crack this case. Detective Scale told me an autopsy had been performed on Ms. Flow, he said I needed to see it, now. The clip board was hanging from the side of the table her dead body laid on. I flipped it open and read, said that she had sexual intercourse moments before she died, that explains why she had the condom. To my surprise it said that she was pregnant, 5 months to be exact. Her stomach was cut open when we found her, someone had tried to kill that baby, and they did. But why did she need the condom, if she was already pregnant?

When I saw her cold body laying on that metal table, I felt the same connection I had with her that I felt in the beginning, why was I so connected to this women? I needed to solve this case, I wanted to solve this case, what’s going on with me why cant I get my big break. I pulled up to my drive way and noticed that a car was parked in what used to be my wife’s spot. I figured it was just the neighbors. When I walked towards the steps my door was already unlocked. That was strange because I had no one to come home to. I forgot to mention my wife left me when I was a drug addict, she was pregnant with our first child but she miscarried and she blamed it all on me. When I walked through that door I felt as if though I hadn’t been in here for weeks. I walked into my house with caution, not knowing who was in there. When I walked into my living room the light was already on, and I heard voices. When I peeked I saw that all the furniture was messed up, and a line of cocaine was on the table. Was this just one of my hallucinations or was this real?

I walked in and sitting on my couch was my boss, Sergeant Lincoln. He stood up and said that he needed to talk to me, I said okay. First he asked me what went on in here, I had no idea and said when I left this morning the house was fine.
He looked like he didn’t believe me, I didn’t sound very convincing. I was trying to put all the pieces together, you know get my story straight. I don’t know why I was nervous, because I didn’t do anything. I asked him if it was his car on my driveway, and he said no that he parked the patrol car on the next block. At that moment I was confused, whose car was on my driveway? Sergeant Lincoln changed the subject and said something very important was going to happen.

He said that when Special Victims Unit searched the hotel room, they found finger prints, they said that it traced back to Me. He said the car on my driveway was Ms. Flows, and that the keys on the table were the keys to her car. I was calm, like I knew what I did, although I had no clue what he was talking about. Before I knew it I was in hancuffs, and for the first time in the back seat of the cop car, not in front. I was speechless, which made him probably think I was guilty. When we got to the station they explained everything to me.
She was my wife, I had killed my baby actually take it out and got rid of it. They said that I hired Mr. Serg Push to be one of the suspects so I wouldn’t get caught. They blamed everything on me, said I had stolen her car, got rid of her clothes, made it look like she wasn’t married, and plain out killed her. They said the baby wasn’t mine and that’s why I wanted revenge on her, I was back on drugs, which explained the reason for the line of cocaine. The station said due to the high dose of cocaine I did things I never knew I did. So here I am in this cell, telling my story to a reporter who is naming this article Good Cop gone Bad.

How to make Logandale Better

3/17/09
What would make Logandale a better school?

Logandale is a great school to be apart of, but there are some things that can make it better. If we have more after school programs it will attract kids. If we’re running low on spending money we could always have fundraisers. Sometimes the teachers have impacts on the students, so we should get some motivated teachers. So think about it, what can you do to better this school?

More after school programs will attract students. If the school offers more after or before school programs it will attract more students. If we take a survey asking students what they are interested in, then the school can make after schools depending on what the demand is for that activity. Most students like to have after school time to unwind, or do something fun so what better way than to spend it meeting new people. I know that creating some new after school programs will cost the school more money, but if we have some fundraisers we can make extra money.

If our school needs more money, we could always have more fundraisers. If the school has more events such as dances or field trips then the money they profit from that they can use to buy more resources for our school. If there is more money for the school then there can be more things, like more books, better sports equipment, and even things to sell. What I mean by things to sell is that in the lunchroom they have juices and cookies you could buy. If the school has more spending money one thing that they can do is offer more things for sell if the kids don’t like the lunch. Even though the school cant please all the students I’m sure the teachers can help.

If we have more motivated teachers, then maybe students will want to come to school everyday. Some of the reason kids do well in school is because some teachers always tell their students to always try their best, sometimes teachers can make difference on a students perspective. If the students attend school inspired to do good there is no way that they will want to leave. If students have something to look forward to everyday when they come to school not only will they do better, but they will want to come everyday. If teachers act like they don’t care, then the students wont care either. So I think that its best if the teachers try to motivate the students.

Logandale is a great school to be apart of, but there are some things that can make it better. If we have more after school programs it will attract kids. If we’re running low on spending money we could always have fundraisers. Sometimes the teachers have impacts on the students, so maybe we should get some motivated teachers. So although this school is already a good school, don’t you think adding some of these things would make it better?

Allyson Torres's Life Story.

I remember the day I felt the pain, the very very strong pain. I was 9 months and 2 weeks. She was late, almost 2 weeks late. I wanted this kid out of me, I felt like I had 10 watermelons inside of me. I couldn’t see my feet, my hands were swollen, and I was angry at everyone. When September 11th 1994 came around I knew it was time, time to welcome a new life into this world. My labor pains started at 7:00 am, it felt really bad. I told David, the baby’s daddy to get the bags ready, that we were ready to explode. We rushed to the hospital, nervous as I was they said I was not fully dilated yet. I was put in a huge hospital room. I was told to take a walk around the Labor and Delivery Room, to speed up the process. The pain was ridiculous, almost 16 hours of Labor, and she finally came. The doctors gave me the epidural way to late so I felt everything, her shoulders coming out, the head ripping my skin. The moment I heard her first cry, I knew it was over and well worth the wait.

She was born with a fever, and passed it along to me. I was not allowed to hold her or see her until I was better. I couldnt walk because by the time the epidural kicked in my legs were all numb. When I finally got to see her I broke down to tears, she was cute and had the biggest cheeks in the world. She looked exactly like her father, curly hair and full lips. Me and her father couldnt decide on a name until we saw her. We had a few names in mind but the moment we saw her we knew that she was an Allyson. Her middle name was Raquel because my sisters name was Raquel and my mothers name was Rachel, the spanish name for Rachel is Raquel. It was a perfect fit. Her father looked so proud, he took billions of pictures and brought me dozens of flowers and balloons. I was in the hospital for 3 days, my baby had to stay for 5 days. I came back everyday to see her, and feed her.

When we could finally take her home it was overwhelming. Family came over non-stop, bringing gifts and clothes. Allyson was the second grandchild on my side, but the first girl on both sides. I could not believe that I was 19 and had a baby. I knew that on the first night she was home with us, I became another person. I was no longer selfish, but I was a mother, one of the happiest. She was an easy child, loved to sleep at 4 months she slept through the whole night. She loved to take naps during the day, she always had a new oufit and her father always bought her jordans. Her grandfather on her dads side always wanted a girl, he got his wish because his first ever grandchild was a girl. Everyone loved Allyson, well it was kinda hard not to.

The first years went by really fast, the first halloweens, the first birthdays, and the first steps. She was an easy child, a loving one too. She loved to sing, by 2 years old she knew the whole theme song to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Her and her cousin Jake were always together, they were only 6 months apart, that was her best friend. By age three we nicknamed Allyson to Ally Raquel, she always wanted to be called Raquel, because she loved her aunt. By age 4 it was just Ally, because she no longer wanted to be Raquel, she wanted to be just Ally. She loved going to her Lito Davids house, every weekend she spent the days with him. Her father treated her like a princess, always with the best shoes, and best toys. I was the best mother I could be, I loved this kid more than life its self.

She has a big attitude, her father always said that it was the puerto rican in her. She is very responsible for her age, I always said that was the mexican in her. She still has the same curly hair she was born with, and the same full lips, just like her father. Nothing of me passed down to her, but I know some how some way she is like me. She's 14 now, and I know life is hard on her, beeing that me and her father are not together, and she has big responsiblities to take care of, but I know that someday she will be okay. I think I raised a pretty great kid, I couldnt be happier.

What I Wish From Obama

*Preserve women's rights of reproductive choice

A women should have the right to chose weather or not she wants to keep or abort her fetus. No female should have that choice made for her. If the government decides to ban a women’s choice she will be forced to keep a child she doesn’t want. Government is made up of men, so it will be men making decisions for women. A man doesn’t know what a girl goes through during a pregnancy, so how can he choose for her?

If a 12 year old girl gets raped and ends up getting pregnant, should she be forced to keep the baby? If the government decides to only allow women to abort the baby should she be forced to get rid of a baby she wants to keep? This decision can go either way. Lets say the government decides to make the decision for women, and the decision is she has to have every kid she conceives, how will some women handle this? If a teenager is having unprotected sex, and she gets pregnant and is forced to keep a baby she does not want what is she going to do? The child will get neglected because the mother will always look at her child as something she doesn’t want.

What happens when you conceive more than one child? Lets say your 16 and conceive more than one child, do you have to have the choice already made for you? Are you supposed to be forced to keep children you do not want? The mother and or father should have the chance to decide for themselves. Its their fetus, they created it so shouldn’t they be able to decide. If a women wants to abort her fetus she should be able to have that choice, if she decides to get rid of the baby she should be able to live with herself no matter what choice she makes.

If the law is passed that women are forced to keep the children they create then its good for some and bad for others. If an irresponsible 21 year old who parties every night and sleeps with every guy, gets pregnant should she be forced to keep a baby, that she doesn’t even know whose the father. A women should just have the right to choose what she wants to do. No one should have to make that choice for her because no one could understand what she is going threw. Its her choice, and her body, her mind, and her thoughts. If she could live with aborting a baby or keeping a baby she doesn’t want then she should have her own free will to do so. Barrack Obama, no law should be passed about forcing a women to do something.

Life Changing Event

The day he was born, it changed my life. I never thought I could love someone as much as I love him. I was against him being born when I found out my mom was pregnant. It always crossed my mind that we were going to have different dads, and with that in mind I always thought he wouldn't really be my brother. When my mom told me she was pregnant I cried, almost every night because I was against it. When he was finally born everything about me changed.

I was at the hospital when he was born, just waiting and waiting to see him. He was born in the morning and later in the afternoon I got to hold him. He was the first boy in the family, and only my mothers second child. We have different fathers but at the time it didnt matter. When i got to carry him and smell that new born baby smell i was amazed. He looked at me in awe, the same way i looked back at him. He was already strong he had a tight grip on my hair, and never let it go.

I held him all through visiting hours, which was from 12 pm- 8pm, he was something more than a regular baby doll, he was real. Matthew was his name, and he was the whitest baby ever. He had blue eyes, and a head full of brownish hair. To me he was perfect. He helped me realize that being selfish is stubborn. When he was home he became more real to me, ever since then my life has changed. He has taught me to be more open to new things, and I love him to death. So thanks to my brother I have learned to appreciate more things in life.

Parents Are The Best Teachers

Yes, I agree with the statement that parents are the best teachers for their kids. They will be able to tell us not to make the same mistakes that they did in the past. Although parents might not know everything they are the best person to tell us what and what not to do. Kids listen more to their parents rather than anyone else. So do you think that your parents are the best teachers for you?

Parents will be able to tell us not to make the same mistakes that they did in the past. For example, if your mother got pregnant when she was like 17 and had to drop out of high school just so she could have you then she is going to try her very best to make sure you don’t do the same. If your father was a gang banger, or used to do poorly in school then he is going to have higher expectations for you in your life. Parents have been taught from their parents to do better than they ever did, its like a gene in a parents mind to help your child become a better person then you were. Us kids know if were going to listen to anyone, it has to be our parents even though they are not always right.

Although parents might not know everything they are the best person to tell us what we can and cant do. If it’s another person telling you, you cant go out that night then more than likely your not going to listen to them. But if it’s your parents telling you that you cant go out then your more than likely going to listen to them, they just hold a higher respect in your book. If you do something wrong parents will punish you, and even though parents don’t always give the best punishments they are doing it for our own good. A punishment comes better from our parents than from anybody else. Parents are not always right, but they do know what’s best for us because we’re their kid and no one else’s, even though they might want to change that sometimes. Even though your parents can not always prove you wrong or right, they are the best person to listen to.

Kids listen more to their parents rather than anyone else. If a stranger walking down the street tells you, you cant wear the shirt your wearing you’re not going to really care about what they say, if its your parents it’s another story. Some kids have a favorite parent, like picking their dads rather than their moms, or even the other way around but both of them have huge impacts on our everyday lives. Your parents are always going to know what’s best for you, end of story.
So since they know what’s best for us, shouldn’t we just listen to them?

Yes, I agree with the statement that parents are the best teachers for their kids. They will be able to tell us not to make the same mistakes that they did in the past. Although parents might not know everything they are the best person to tell us what and what not to do. Kids listen more to their parents rather than anyone else. So parents this goes out to you, although sometimes your kids may drive you nuts, we appreciate you and everything that you do.

A Skill Everyone Needs

If you want to be successful in life you need to learn things that will help you get through. Only skill that I think you need to learn in order to be successful in life is knowing how to work the computer. If you learn how to use a computer more jobs will be available to you, another reason learning how to use the computer would be a good investment is because so many things now a days are on the computer. If you learn how to use the computer, really well then you'll be more accomplished. When working on a computer things actually become easier for you, because their so high tech and fast.

A lot of jobs require you to know how to work the computer, if its typing, making payments, or ordering shipments. For a couple years many things have been online, if you learn how to work the computer and the Internet than you will have an advantage. Offices, and even businesses are homes to computers that do many things people cant. Computers just work faster especially when the person in front of them knows how to use them. Although many jobs will offer computer training, if you don't know about computers.

I think that since computers are so advanced and popular today that everyone should know how to use them. They really don't make computers that complicated, in fact I think they are easier. If you need to pay your bills, you can do it online, if you need to rent a movie or order pizza you can even do that online. Computers makes it easier for people to survive in the every day world. I mean they even have something for people with bad eye sight, you can make the text bigger on websites. So how can a computer not help us become successful in life?

If you know how to work on a computer than you know something that some people may not know. I think that everybody should learn how to use the computer because it makes you more advanced. If you have to make a resume for a job interview and you put "Works well on computers", then you will probably have a better chance at getting that job unless its a job walking dogs or being a maid. Although a lot of jobs don't rely on computers learning how to use one will make u depend on people less, you wont need to ask anyone for help because you will already know it.

So people may have different opinions on what you need in order to be successful in life but I think that one thing you should always know is how to work a computer. If you know how to work a computer when you apply for a job they might pick you over someone who does not work the computer, another reason is that pretty soon our whole lives will evolve around this thing. My last reason is that, well once you learn how to do something new you cant help but feel accomplished. So, wanna better chance at getting a job? Go get on a computer.

The Best Day Ever

It was last year May 6, 2008 to be exact, seventh grade in Mrs. Oubre's class. She was absent that day and I was only in honors for about 2 weeks. When I went into honors I only had 2 friends, Julissa and Jessica. We were always together, and since Mrs. Oubre was absent that day we all sat together in the back row. We had so much homework from the night before due, since we didn't do it but we finished it early. The sub let us do what ever we wanted, as long as our work was handed in. Me and Jessica were pretending to be boyfriend and girlfriend, she was the "boy" and i was the girl. Stephanie suggested that we get "married" since we were always together. We were bored out of our mines so we decided to go along with it. Stephanie was our "lawyer" and she made all the papers. All me and Jessica had to do was sign them. We had ring pops posted on our ring fingers and of course they were our wedding rings.

Jessica and I had a copy of our marriage certificates hanging in our lockers, to prove that we were stuck with each other for life. Although this wasn't real it was the fact that she was my best friend and was willing to stick by me no matter what. We walked around the whole day with our ring pops, everybody was asking us whats with them and we just explained what we did. Jessica was the "husband" and I was the wife, everybody said we made a fine fake married couple. When we had our lockers open one of the 7th grade sub teachers read our certificates, since our lockers were right next to each other he figured it out and he told us that it was good practice for when we really get married.

Although we never took the marriage seriously, I mean we're only 14 and that's a little to young to be married. The whole purpose of "getting married" was because we wanted eachother to know that we would always be there for eachother. We were best friends for life, and we couldn't be happier. This was one of the best days of my life, and will always be no matter what happens.
